Directions to the Sustainable Living Network House:

*This work environment is in a house in a residential neighbourhood, which is the home of Jillian Hovey. Please dress very casually (jeans, shorts, t-shirts please be comfortable; and do not make us uncomfortable by dressing up). If you are to be helping outside, please dress accordingly. If you are going to be here for a few hours bring your lunch and/or a snack; reverse osmosis water is available on site for you to drink and fill your water bottle.

**Please do not be late, as your late arrival makes starting on time, and having everyone on the same page, very difficult. Also, please do not come early. If you are very early, you can call to see if it is ok to come over, or come to the door, and see if it is ok to come in. If it is better for you to wait elsewhere, there is a bakery on Davenport at the bottom of Alberta Avenue, which is less than a 5-minute walk to our office.

Location:
We are in a house on the west side of the street at 78 Alberta Avenue, Phone # 416-410-7981.

Alberta is a north-south running street, one block east of Oakwood. We are half way between St. Clair and Davenport. We are southeast of Oakwood and St. Clair, and northwest of Davenport & Ossington.

If you are driving, Alberta has two-way traffic, and runs north off Davenport; you can park on the street for free between 7 a.m. and midnight. We can only park on one side of the street, so park on the side of the street that all the cars are parked on. If you are bicycling, you can park your bike at the back of the house.

We can be accessed a few different ways by TTC.

The two main ones are:

From the St. Clair West subway station on the Spadina/University line:

Take the Keele bus west bound (be careful, as there is an east bound as well).

You will come up from underground at Bathurst and St. Clair. Stay on for almost two major city blocks (Bathurst to Christie is one, and Christie to Oakwood is the second).

You can get off either at Winona or Oakwood: Alberta lies between the two. If you get off at Winona, walk in the direction that the streetcar was going to the next block, which is Alberta; if you get off at Oakwood, walk back one block to Alberta.

Walk south on Alberta three and a half very small blocks (passing Biggar Avenue, Rosemount Avenue, and Burlington Crescent.)

it is the second house on your right-hand side after you pass Burlington Crescent, and before you pass Mount Royal Avenue on your right

We are at #78 Alberta Avenue (it is the second house on your right-hand side after you pass Burlington Crescent, and before you pass Mount Royal Avenue on your right).

From the Ossington subway station on the Bloor line:
(The Ossington station is two stops west of Bathurst)

Go upstairs to the buses.

Take #63 Ossington bus NORTH-BOUND (The stop is on the north side of the bus

"island". The same number also leaves from a different stop on the south

side of the platform and goes southbound.)

Stay on the bus to the third light, which is Davenport, where Ossington dead-ends.

Get off the bus.

Cross Davenport to the north side.

Head westward (the same direction that the bus turned) for 20m.

Turn right (north) up Alberta Avenue, which is the first street you will run into.

You will go through a stop sign at Tyrrel Avenue, and pass Mount Royal on your left.

Go to #78, a house on the west side (just after a road called Mount Royal; watch the numbers jump after Mount Royal.)

ARRIVING BY AUTOMOBILE:

Driving directions coming in from the west on the Gardiner Expressway:

Take the Jameson exit (the one after the Lakeshore exit) just as you are approaching the exhibition grounds (BEFORE the Spadina exit at the Sky Dome).

Be prepared to make a left as you are exiting, and you will go up and over the highway and follow straight ahead up Jameson Avenue to where it dead ends at Queen Street.

Make a right on Queen, and an IMMEDIATE LEFT onto Lansdowne (it is only 20 metres along Queen that you turn, so get immediately into the left lane when you turn onto Queen.)

Stay on Jameson for more than a kilometre, going through the major intersections at Dundas, College, Bloor, and Dupont. Immediately after Dupont, Lansdowne dips down under the railway tracks, and climbs a slope to lights at Davenport: TURN RIGHT ON DAVENPORT.

Follow Davenport through the light at Dufferin, then through the light at Oakwood. TAKE THE FIRST LEFT after the light at Oakwood - this is MOUNT ROYAL.

Follow Mount Royal as it gently curves to the right, through the first stop sign, to the second stop sign where Mount Royal dead ends at Alberta Avenue.

We are two houses up from this intersection on the west side of the street (left-hand side if you look up hill), at 78 Alberta Avenue.

You can park on Mount Royal or Alberta (on Alberta, make sure that you are parked on the side of the street that all the cars are on, as the parking switches from one side to the other: 1st-15th of the month on the east side; 16th to the end of the month on the west side). You can park from 7 am to midnight without a permit.

Driving directions coming in from the east on the Gardiner Expressway:

Take the Spadina exit off the Gardiner (this is right near the Sky Dome).

You will follow Spadina for a couple of kilometres north, until Spadina dead ends at Davenport Road (this is after you pass through Dupont and go under the railway tracks; and is directly below Casa Loma).

Turn left on Davenport Road.

Go through lights at Bathurst, and the lights at Christie.

The next light is a three-way intersection, where Ossington comes up from the south (left) dead ends at Davenport.

Go through this light at Ossington, and make your first right on Alberta Avenue.

You will go up a hill and coming down the other side, you will pass through a stop sign at Tyrrel Avenue, and then pass Mount Royal, which comes on your left immediately after the stop sign.

We are located at #78 Alberta Avenue, a house on the west side (just after a road called Mount Royal; watch the numbers jump after Mount Royal.)

Driving directions coming in from the north on the 401 (either east- or west-bound):

Take the Allen Road exit going south (this is right at Yorkdale Mall).

Go south on the Allen until it dead-ends at Eglinton.

Turn right (west) on Eglinton.

Go through the first light at Marlee.

Get into the left lane.

Turn left at the next light at Oakwood.

Go 3 lights: Vaughan Road, another one, and then one at Rogers Road.

The 4th light is at St. Clair. Get in the left lane.

Turn left (east) on St. Clair (there is an advance green).

Turn right on the first street along St. Clair this is Alberta Avenue.

Go south on Alberta three and a half very small blocks (passing Biggar Avenue, Rosemount Avenue, and Burlington Crescent.)

We are at #78 Alberta Avenue (it is the second house on your right-hand side after you pass Burlington Crescent, and before you pass Mount Royal Avenue on your right).
